About the Program
The 2-year MA English course has been developed considering that theoretical knowledge as well as practical skill is needed to enter the industry. Literature gives a perceptive eye and in-depth reading helps develop a flair for writing. Students of MA English have a range of opportunities once they graduate. Besides media, they can also go for civil services, advertising and of course teaching. Many who are interested in academics or teaching go for higher studies and research in English.

About the University/ Institution
Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) was established on 1st June 1996 vide Karnataka Govt. Notification No. ED 1 UOV 95 dated 12th February 1996 – KSOU Act 1992 is considered to be a reputed Open University amongst the open learning institutions in the country. This University is recognised by University Grants Commission (UGC), Distance Education Bureau (DEB) ,is a regular member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), Delhi and it also has association with Commonwealth of Learning (COL).

FIRST YEAR

A student has to study the following subjects during the course

  1. English Literature from Chaucer to Bunyan
  2. Shakespeare
  3. Restoration & Eighteenth Century – English Literature
  4. Nineteenth Century – English Literature
  5. Indian Literature in English

SECOND YEAR

  1. Twentieth Century – English Literature
  2. Comparative Literature ( Drama )
  3. Literary Criticism
  4. American Literature
  5. European Classics in Translation

Annual payment of 6500 + 6500
Additional Fees
Registration Fees (at the time of Admission only) is Rs. 300
ID Card (at the time of Admission only) is Rs. 50
Application Processing Fees (at the time of Admission only) is Rs. 250
Examination Fee is additional and will be announced by the University before the exams.
Printed Study Material (Optional) – The cost of study material is additional Rs. 2,400 per year (Total Rs. 4,800 for 2 years).
